On October 14, 2024, the second meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea was held in Ashgabat.

During the plenary session “Partnership for Peace, Prosperity and Mutual Trust”, it was noted that the National Leader of Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov played a key role in establishing and strengthening the foundation of parliamentary relations between Turkmenistan and foreign countries.

It was noted at the meeting that in recent years, along with the traditional issues on the multilateral cooperation agenda between the states of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea, the inter-parliamentary dialogue has gained importance in the implementation of agreements at the highest level, as well as in the expansion of practical cooperation.

In this regard, the role of inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups, whose activities serve as an effective tool for mutual understanding between peoples, was emphasized.

In the afternoon, the work of the meeting continued in two sessions that were entitled as “Economic Cooperation, Digital Economy and Industry” and “Cooperation between Central Asian countries and the Republic of Korea to mitigate climate change on the way to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals”.

The participants of the meeting, having highlighted the need for the format “Central Asia - Republic of Korea”, noted that for the successful implementation of joint plans it is necessary to bring the partnership between the countries of Central Asia and the Republic of Korea to a qualitatively new level.

In the context of exchange of national experience on strengthening the legal basis of cooperation, the participants shared their views on modern methods of improving parliamentary and lawmaking activities, development of mechanisms for establishing ties between parliamentary Friendship groups, specialized committees, women parliamentarians and young deputies.

It was emphasized that the meeting of the speakers of the National Assembly of Korea and Central Asian parliaments is an effective platform for regular dialogue and defining of priority areas of cooperation.

Upon the outcomes of the second meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of the Central Asian states and the Republic of Korea, the Joint Declaration was adopted.

The second Turkmen-Korean consultative meeting with the participation of representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea was held within the framework of the second meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of the Central Asian states and the Republic of Korea.

The sides noted that these meetings give impetus to strengthening ties between the two countries. It was noted that inter-parliamentary relations are an important component of the interstate dialog.

In this regard, the importance of participation of the delegation headed by the Speaker of Mejlis of Turkmenistan in the first meeting of the speakers of the parliaments of Central Asian countries and the Republic of Korea in September 2023 in Seoul was emphasized.

In addition, the sides discussed topical issues of trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, including transport, energy, high technologies, science, education, healthcare, sports, tourism, climate change and environmental protection.

On the same day, Speaker of Mejlis D. Gulmanova met with Chairman of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Y. Koshanov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan M. Zokirzoda and the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan N. Ismoilov.

In addition, bilateral meetings of inter-parliamentary Friendship Groups were held.
