Turkmen-Uzbek political consultations were held in Ashgabat
On July 14, 2026, the next round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan took place in Ashgabat. The Turkmen delegation was headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Uzbek delegation was led by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov.
During the consultations, the parties held a thorough exchange of views on the further strengthening of the Turkmen-Uzbek strategic partnership, reviewing the current state and prospects of bilateral political and diplomatic interaction. It was noted that the main factor in strengthening cooperation is mutual visits, meetings, and high-level negotiations.
Particular attention was paid to maintaining an active political dialogue at the bilateral level, as well as coordinating interaction within international and regional organizations, primarily the UN, CIS, OIC, ECO, and the Non-Aligned Movement. Mutual readiness to further support each other's international initiatives and to align approaches to pressing issues on the regional and global agendas was confirmed. The parties emphasized the importance of consistently improving the legal framework for bilateral relations, intensifying interparliamentary and interregional ties, and expanding direct contacts between the relevant ministries and agencies of the two countries.
As part of their bilateral agenda, the parties discussed in detail the practical implementation and organizational support of upcoming international events in Turkmenistan this year.
A separate set of negotiations was devoted to trade and economic cooperation. They emphasized the need to further diversify mutual trade, expand investment cooperation and improve the effectiveness of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific-Technical and Cultural Cooperation.
Prospects for developing transport and transit connectivity, establishing new international transport corridors, improving logistics infrastructure and deepening cooperation in industry, agriculture, energy and the digital economy were discussed in detail.
Significant attention was paid to cultural and humanitarian cooperation as an important factor in further rapprochement between the peoples of the two countries. The parties noted the positive dynamics of cooperation in education, science, culture, healthcare, youth policy and sports, confirming their interest in expanding humanitarian exchanges, holding joint cultural events and implementing new projects aimed at strengthening the traditional ties of friendship and good-neighborliness between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On the same day, a signing ceremony was held for bilateral documents aimed at significantly strengthening the legal framework of the interstate partnership.
The following documents were signed:
- Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan on cooperation in ensuring international information security;
- Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2027–2028.
