BICYCLE RIDING DEDICATED TO THE WORLD BICYCLE DAY HELD IN BUCHAREST

On May 28, 2022 the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Romania with the support and assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania and the Municipality of Bucharest, as well as the “Green Revolution” Association organized the bicycle riding, dedicated to the World Bicycle Day, celebrated since 2018 in accordance with the Resolution proposed by Turkmenistan and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.

In the mentioned bicycle riding held in King Mihai I Park, took part representatives of the local diplomatic corps, as well as the citizens of Turkmenistan temporary living and studying in Romania.

The bicycle is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transportation, fostering environmental stewardship and health. The contribution of the adopted Resolution in promoting the cycling culture among all members of society with the aim of strengthening the physical and mental health of nations, as well as achieving environmental security – is indisputable.

On March 15 of the current year, the 193 UN Member States adopted additional Resolution on the Integration of mainstream bicycling into public transportation systems for sustainable development which is also was initiated by Turkmenistan.

In the framework of achieving sustainable development goals, it calls on all UN member states to “integrate the bicycle into public transportation, in urban and rural settings in developing and developed countries” as a tool for combating climate change.
