Statement for Mass Media

On 4 May 2026, Minister of Foreign Affair of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, during which the sides discussed bilateral relations, as well as international issues of mutual interest.

In particular, the parties exchanged views on regional security matters. In this regard, special emphasis was placed on the importance of applying political-diplomatic means and methods that form the basis of preventive diplomacy and are directed at avoiding complicated situations, including conflicts.

The sides also touched upon specific aspects of Caspian issues, in particular, special focus was made on the fact that the Caspian Sea is a region of peace, harmony and good-neighborliness. At the same time, the necessity of intensifying multilateral cooperation on addressing environmental issues in the Caspian Sea was emphasized.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and Iran noted the need to further develop diplomatic dialogue between the two states and, in this regard, agreed to uphold regular contacts through the foreign ministries.

The telephone conversation was held upon the initiative of the Iranian side.
