The presentation of new printed publications named “The International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea” and “The Caspian Sea: Advantages of Developing International Economic Cooperation” took place during the briefing held in the MFA of Turkmenistan on December 28, 2019.

As is known, during the period of 2017-2019 our country chaired the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea. During the given period, under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov who was elected as the President of the IFAS, a number of significant initiatives aimed at the resolution of the ecological, social-economic and other issues concerning the Aral problem were carried out.

Also, the vast amount of work was realized on further perfection of the IFAS functioning, elevation of the effectiveness of the agencies and structural units of the IFAS, as well as the strengthening of its organizational and legal base. Thus, upon the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan, the Summit of the Heads of the IFAS Founding States took place on August 24, 2018 in the National Tourist Zone “Avaza.” Alongside, during the last 3-4 years, the meetings of the IFAS and its Commissions were held, as well as the international events on the Aral Sea issues were organized.

Summarizing its chairmanship, the Turkmen side published a special collection of informational materials and documents dedicated to the establishment and development of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.

Another publication reflecting the results of the First Caspian Economic Forum contains the official documents, as well as the speeches made during this international event.

It is vital to note that the idea of holding the Forum belongs to the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. This initiative found its political and legal reflection in the Joint Communiqué adopted on the outcomes of the Fifth Summit of the Heads of Caspian States held on August 12, 2018 in the city of Aktau of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The hosting of the Forum and the publication of the materials serve as vital step in the process of further implementation of the agreements reached on the highest level. It is also important in the context of the preparation to the next Summit of the Heads of Caspian States.
