INTERNATIONAL FORUM OF MEDICAL SCIENTISTS STARTED IN ASHGABAT

On October 8, 2021, the International forum of medical scientists «Health diplomacy is the foundation of a healthy world» opened in a hybrid format at the «Yyldyz» hotel in the capital city.

The initiative to organize the international conference to discuss issues related to using the experience gained during the COVID-19 pandemic and preventing the spread of infectious diseases was put forward by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The current event, which is being held in four sessions, is attended by high-ranking health officials and scientific intelligentsia from 15 countries, heads and representatives of reputable international organizations, in particular the UN and WHO.

Representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Ashgabat, Turkmen and foreign journalists also took an active part in this event.

The address by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the participants of the International forum of medical scientists «Health diplomacy is the foundation of a healthy world» was read at the beginning of the forum.

In his address, the head of state emphasized that the health diplomacy that is intended to promote a constructive international partnership and exchange of practical achievements in the field of medicine is of particular importance as one of the priority factors in the development of modern medical science.

Dr. Hans Kluge, Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, emphasizing in his speech the importance of this meeting organized by the Government of Turkmenistan, noted that this platform provides a good opportunity to assess the level of interaction achieved, as well as to exchange views on topical issues in healthcare, particularly in the fight against the current pandemic.

Regarding the lessons learned by the international community from the current pandemic - it is one thing that multilateralism in the fight is not enough, and no country is alienated, we are all interconnected, Dr. Hans Kluge added.

During the event, experts discussed a wide range of issues and had a number of constructive discussions about the importance of health diplomacy in the fight against infectious diseases with pandemic character, sharing experiences between nations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
