AN INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR TITLED “CULTURE OF PEACE” WAS HELD IN ASHGABAT

On November 30, 2021, in the building of the Museum of Fine Arts of Turkmenistan the international webinar under the title “Culture of Peace” was held dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Independence, the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan Neutrality and also to the proclamation of 2021 as “Turkmenistan – Homeland of Peace and Trust”.

More than 40 representatives of the cultural sphere from 15 countries took part in the webinar.

The event included speeches by Executive Secretary of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO Ch.Rustamova, General Director of the National Children’s Library of Ukraine A.Gordienko, Chief Director of the Yerevan Russian Drama Theatre named after K.Stanislavsky M.Mkhitaryan, Chief Director of the State Philharmonic of Belarus A.Nikita and others.

During their speeches, the participants emphasized the special importance of holding this meeting not only in strengthening international cultural ties, but also in achieving peace and stability through the cultural development of society. In this context, the speakers noted that the centuries-old history of mankind demonstrates that where there is the greatest development and prosperity of culture, including literature and art, there is a stronger desire for peace and harmony and good neighborliness.

In the course of the webinar, the audience also talked about the comprehensive care of the President of Turkmenistan for the preservation and development of national traditions and customs of the Turkmen people, which promotes the enrichment of spiritual and moral traditions and values, ensuring their proper preservation for future generations.

As noted, the concept of “culture” combines all best achievements of humanity. Every nation living on earth has its own peculiarities, historical past, and rich cultural heritage. The Turkmen people, whose history goes back thousands of years, are heirs and successors of the cultures of many ethnic groups that inhabited this vast territory.

It was emphasized that the long-term cooperation of Turkmenistan with UNESCO has clearly identified promising areas of partnership. In this regard, the sides talked about intensifying work under the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and UNESCO for 2021-2023 to add many historical and cultural monuments and handicrafts of Turkmenistan to the UNESCO World Heritage List, demonstrating their significant contribution to the world civilization. The importance of Turkmenistan’s nomination “Dutar craftsmanship and traditional musical performance art in combination with singing” was noted, as well as the work on the nomination to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, in particular the Akhal-Teke horse breeding and breeding of the Turkmen Alabai.
